If you look at the images above, the German proof marks show that two proof tests were done. The eagle shows the first proof and the "crown and U" mark shows that a second proof was done. There should be additional marks with the "crown and U" showing the calibre of the barrel, rifling etc. Hope this helps. The Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16500376725481184982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038805453913133808.post-41499288961109227332014-09-13T11:36:49.702-07:002014-09-13T11:36:49.702-07:00mine has german eagle along with crown on top of U...mine has german eagle along with crown on top of U. what does this mean? thanks in advancedirtydmaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376602967501740634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038805453913133808.post-89079800692710147512013-11-01T11:48:48.196-07:002013-11-01T11:48:48.196-07:00I have an urgent question about a French mark on t...I have an urgent question about a French mark on the Thivillier shotgun. You can generally find some very good information on the NRA website: http://www.nramuseum.com/gun-info-research/proof-marks-from-the-blue-book.aspx

If you know the country of origin of your firearm, you could also try googling for "proof marks " and find other detailed images of all the pertinent information. It appears you'...Thank you very much ma'am. It appears you've got the order of the two marks that you identified switched around. The first mark (Eagle with the N on it) is a German "definitive nitro proof test", conducted by the Ulm proof house. The second one (the shield with the mesh on it) is from the Munich proof house. I would suspect that if the first two marks are German, the third one is German as well. There should be another proof mark that indicates the caliber (but I believe it is enclosed in a circle usually). Maybe the number in the shield indicates the caliber in millimeters. Is the firearm in question a .26 caliber perhaps (6.6 mm. translates to .2598 inches)

See http://www.nramuseum.com/gun-info-research/proof-marks-from-the-blue-book.aspx for a list of proofmarks. Hope this helps you out.The Editorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16500376725481184982noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038805453913133808.post-26980225858148773282012-09-21T07:42:59.851-07:002012-09-21T07:42:59.851-07:00We don't have a good enough camera to take pic...We don't have a good enough camera to take pictures of the mark, so I tried to sketch it. http://imageshack.us/a/img189/7641/proofmarkssketch.png
We have identified the first as from Munich and second from Ulm and being a "definitive nitro proof for all guns."
