The Civil war ended in 1865, while the M1866 Springfield was produced from 1867 to 1869. Obviously it could not have been issued to Cody two years before it was built. <br /><br />It is possible that Cody kept his M1863 Springfield and it was later modified into the M1866 by Springfield Armory, but this is unlikely.
